Outreach to Southeast Asia

Chris is helping to start a women's ministry among the Lahu people in northern Thailand. Here are her latest reports.

Mission trip to Thailand

Bob and Chris spent three weeks encouraging the Lahu in putting faith into action. Here is a video of our time.

We started on the trip knowing that we would speak at the Red Lahu Convention. As the trip progressed we found out about two other conventions that we could speak at. The very first Mekong Region Lahu Youth Consulation was taking place and Lahu from five countries were invited. Only Thailand,Burma and Laos showed up, but it was a time to begin building a network of people who will work together in evangelism, church planting and community development.

The highlight of the trip was working as a family to put on the children's program at the Red Lahu Youth Conference. Imagine being told at 10 pm that you are in charge of three hours of content for the children the next day. We did not have any idea there even WAS a children's program at this conference. We had brought no resources or materials. We did a quick brainstorming session and then began to look around the village to see what we could use. Chris found some firewood, a piece of yellow paper, a dirt clod, a red chair, a paper sack, a bar of soap and a branch with leaves -- all you need to give a "Wordless Book" explanation of the Gospel.

Chris is speaking at the Red Lahu Women's Convention (April 8 - 10)

Chris has been asked to be the main speaker at the Red Lahu Women's Convention in northern Thailand this year.

She has three talks which will focus on:

Teaching the Lahu to witness

Chris had a wonderful time in Thailand and China. She went into Northern Thailand to speak at the Red Lahu church convention. Chris and Charity (the wife of the National Director from Burma) were the two speakers for the women’s conference. Despite the language barrier, Chris trained the women how to share the Gospel using The Four Spiritual Laws. First, she shared how to give control of your life to Jesus. Then she illustrated how the love of Christ motivates us to talk with others. The women watched a role play where one of the Lahu women modeled how to share the tract to another.

Trip to China

Chris and Daniel Win, the director of GAiN ( Global Aid Network) then went to China on an exploratory trip to see if they could get permission to bring medical teams and teachers into the Lahu villages. They flew into the nearest airport (Kunmin) but still had a 21 hour taxi/bus ride to Lanchan.

Migrants in Thailand

Here is an article in the Bangkok Post about the plight of migrant workers in Thailand.

UNEASY RIDERS

Chris' talks for Thailand

My desire is to equip the Lahu women to reach out to their neighbours with the Gospel.

In my first talk I want the women to get a better picture of who Jesus is. Jesus loves these women just the way they are and wants them to be a world changer.

Teaching the Lahu about the Holy Spirit

Lahu Tracts When Chris went to Thailand in January we wanted to help the church leaders be more effective in telling the members of their churches about how to rely on the Holy Spirit rather than relying on tradition.

We first translated a tract from Thai into Lahu and then made several bi-lingual editions so that people can share this message with ALL the people in their family and with neighbouring families.
