Disciple Making Community

Jesus told us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

In a Disciple Making Community we gather to:

    • Encourage one another -- by reporting what God did as we took steps of faith since our last gathering
    • Get direction from the Bible -- we focus on one Bible passage, asking God how He wants us to obey it during the coming week
    • Learn or practise a skill that helps connect people to Jesus and other believers
    • Pray for one another

Disciple Making Communities are starting all over the world.  In India they have seen two million people baptized over a 19 year period.  And now they are making a difference in many other countries, including the United States and Australia.

Would you like help in starting a Disciple Making Community?  We would be glad to help you with your first eight sessions.

Here is what we have done in Sydney, Australia

Gathering 1 - The Vision

What is the vision for a Disciple  Making Community?  How were the early believers so successful in spreading the news about Jesus?  What can we learn from them?  What faith steps will you take in the coming weeks?

Gathering 2 - Conversation Quadrants

In most of our relationships our conversations move through four stages.  We should not skip over any of these stages if we want to build disciples who obey everything that Jesus has commanded you.  In this session you will be introduced to a simple tool that has helped many people celebrate what God is doing in the lives of the people in their social network.

Gathering 3 - Prayer Habits

Everyone prays, but how can we mobile sufficient prayer to see change in our social network? Select one of these four habits to try during the next month.  Let's see what God does as you take steps of faith.

Gathering 4 - Power

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would give us power to tell others about him.  What is spiritual breathing and how can it help us in experiencing this power?

Gathering 5 - Discovery Bible Study

It is more than an inductive Bible study.  The questions we show you will help build a foundation for: worship, deep and meaningful relationships, active obedience to God's word, and ongoing encouragment.

Gathering 6 - Life Issues

How do you interest non-Christians in reading the Bible?  Which passages should you start with?  What can you do to help them feel comfortable the first time they read the Bible?

Gathering 7 - Creation to Christ

How do I help a group of non-Christians come to faith in Jesus and develop a sound foundation for ongoing growth?  Why should we start with the Old Testament and not the New?

Gathering 8 - Starting a Group

How do I start a group?  Who should I invite?  Is it important for the people to know each other before we start reading the Bible?
