Three tips for disciplemakers

Good morning.

Here is the email I promised to send you.

I asked people who had downloaded materials from our website "what makes a great disciplemaker?"

Ishmael in Kenya, teaches the New Life Training Curriculum  (NLTC) and downloaded the manual from our website.  I think you downloaded materials from here as well. Ishmael has found this material has a great impact on his students.

The first thing Ishmael would tell other disciplmarkers is  to focus on total dependence on the Holy Spirit while teaching the material.  You will find a reminder to do this at the beginning of each lesson.

Then make sure you are applying the principles in your own life.

He went on to say:

Everytime I have first prayed for myself and my students for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I have also learnt to leave 5 mins at the end of any discipleship training for prayer and reflection, where students pause to listen to what God would have them do and what needs to change in their lives.

The other principle is using personal testimony as illustration in discipleship lessons. That is only possible if the principles in the training are actually at work in one's life. This calls for pre-study of all scriptures in the material and letting the Holy Spirit to help one apply the scripture in their life.

I hope these insights help you become a better disciplemaker.

I'll share Bill's insights in my next email.  Bill has trained hundres of people in Australia.

Till then,
