When NLTC (New Life Training Curriculum) was first offered at the University of British Columbia they only offered Level 1.
I had finished Level 2 at another university and did NOT see my need to repeat either of these.
The trainer was very smart.
"Bob I would like you to teach Level 1 the next time it is offered."
Those 15 words totally changed my attitude. I was hanging on every word of the trainer, taking careful notes not only of the main points, but also of illustrations I could use when I taught.
I did not have the same skill as the other trainer, but when my time came to teach:
- I learned the content at a deeper level
- I caught a greater vision of how God could use me
- the other students caught a vision of what they could do the following year
There are some dangers in letting others teach. When I was teaching NLTC in Melbourne we only offered one level at a time. I wanted to develop the students so I asked two who were attending the Level 2 training to teach lessons in the Level 3 training when that was offered. They assumed that since they had been asked to teach that they only needed to show up for those lessons. Not the outcome I was looking for.
What are your thoughts about encouraging the people in your trainings to train others?
I would love to hear your thoughts,
