Could you equip one person before Christmas?

Could you equip one person before Christmas?

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went out for coffee near the boat docks. While we were enjoying the morning, we overheard a conversation between one of the café staff and a fisherman.

The fisherman wanted the barista to take him out on a special trip, but the barista replied,

“Sorry, I can’t do it then — that’s when I go to church.”

I thought, that’s bold! Here’s someone who takes his faith seriously.

Later, when things quieted down and he wasn’t busy, I went over and said,

“I really appreciated your comment about church. I help people share their faith, and I’d love to give you this card for a website that does just that. Maybe you’ll like it — or maybe you can pass it on to someone who would.”

It was a simple exchange, but forced me to reflect on  Jesus’ words:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore, pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out labourers into His harvest.”

Part of that prayer is also equipping people to act on it.

So here’s a little challenge for you:
Between now and Christmas, could you equip one person to share their faith?

There are about 4,000 of us who receive this email each week. Imagine the impact if each of us helped just one other person get started!

Start with your favourite form of evangelism — something you already enjoy doing. Show someone how you do it, let them assist you, then watch them try it, and finally encourage them to do it on their own.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing different ways you can help people get started in sharing their faith.

My wife said her favourite kind of evangelism is invitational evangelism — inviting people to come along to something. With Christmas coming up there are many events you can invite your friends to.

Chris went on to ask me, “But how can I model that for others? How can I teach people to do it?”

So next week, I’ll show you how to help someone learn invitational evangelism — simply and naturally.

This week, let me encourage you to ask God for the names of people you can begin to equip — and then walk with them in small steps through the rest of the year.
