During a meal with a group of international students, Yaro* made a comment that caught my attention. He said, "I respect all religions."
Knowing Yaro* well enough, I gently challenged him, saying, "You might want to rethink that response."
I then shared with him what I’ve learned about some ancient religions. I told him, "In the worship of Molech, people would sacrifice their oldest child when they wanted something important from this god. In Corinth, worship involved having sex with temple prostitutes. And in Mexico, human sacrifice was a routine part of the worship service. Do you really want to respect these ways of worship?"
It didn’t take Yaro* long to reconsider. He quickly clarified, "What I meant is that I respect Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Shintoism."
Now, you and I know that Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
Yaro* isn't quite there yet, but he's coming to an evangelistic series called Alpha and regularly interacts with Christians. Let’s keep praying for him as he continues on his journey.
