As I coach people in how to share the gospel with their non-Christian friends I sometimes hear:
“But I don’t really know many non-Christians.”
That’s completely understandable. It’s easy to live inside a Christian bubble. You go to church, attend Bible study, and spend time with Christian friends. But that can make it hard to connect with those who don’t yet know Jesus.
My friend Bill had a great idea.
He said, “Most of us know three or four people at church we’d enjoy celebrating a birthday with.” So let’s imagine a scenario.
Suppose there are four church friends you'd love to celebrate a birthday with. For each of their birthdays (and your own), you all decide to invite two non-Christian friends.
That’s 5 parties a year, and at each party, you invite 2 guests per person.
If 5 Christians each invite 2 non-Christian friends, that’s:
5 people × 2 guests = 10 guests per party.
Now multiply that over 5 parties in a year:
10 guests × 5 parties = 50 unique touchpoints with people who don’t yet know Jesus.
Now imagine you don’t just party—you build friendships. You get to know one another’s friends, share life, talk about what you’re learning at church or from the Bible, and look for natural opportunities to talk about faith.
Maybe together you offer something like an Alpha course. Maybe you simply live transparently and prayerfully.
Let’s say that over the year, just one of those non-Christian friends decides to follow Jesus.
That’s not just a party win—that’s eternal fruit. Even one new believer among 10 friends is a 10% growth rate—something many churches long for!
So here’s the invitation:
- Think of 4 people from your church you’d enjoy celebrating with.
- Invite 2 non-Christian friends to each celebration.
- Watch what God might do as you work together to reach others.
We’re not alone in this. Let’s use our community to connect with others for the Kingdom.
Let’s Pray
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for the body of Christ. Thank You for our church and the privilege of working together to see Your Kingdom come and Your will be done—on earth as it is in heaven.
Please give us creative ideas to connect with our friends and with the friends of others. Use our simple gatherings to open doors for spiritual conversations and, ultimately, to lead people to You.
Amen.
Have a great week talking with your friends.
