Year of the Ox

Chinese New Year is a great time to talk about Jesus

Chinese New Year is on Friday and this will be a wonderful time to talk with your Chinese friends about Jesus.  This is the Year of the Ox and the cultural background at the end of this email will give great connection points to start a conversation about Jesus.

Here is an image you can post on your socal media.

Here is some cultural background that will help you talk about Jesus.

In Chinese culture, the ox is regarded as an industrious and quiet animal. So when we say someone works like an ox, we mean they quietly make a great contribution to the society without trumeting about it. Doesn't it remind you of Jesus who dedicated His whole life to making our world a better place and never asked anything in return? He never broadcasted what he had sacrificed for us and always humbly claimed He is our servant. He fulfilled his promise and saved us from our sins. In its lifetime, an ox works day and night for humans ploughing the fields and carrying goods. When it ceases to breathe, an oxen's flesh is eaten and skin used for shoes, bags and other purposes. Is that not the destiny of Jesus? The difference lies in the fact that an ox serves one family while Jesus serves all families in the world. Happy Chinese New Year!

I am praying that God will open the spiritual eyes of your friends and give them a hunger to learn more about Jesus this year. Wouldn't it be great if you could read chapters of the Bible together and hear what your friends learn about God?
