The pig is the last animal in the Chinese Zodiac. To many it might not look pleasing, however, the pig plays an important role in people’s life. It is safe to say that since it was domesticated many years ago, the pig has been contributing immensely to human’s survival and development. We thank God for creating and providing this wonderful creature for us.
There are some quite different perspectives on what pigs symbolise in Chinese culture. One which is accepted by many people is that pigs represent fortune. People who possess many pigs are considered by most in the society as those with great fortune. There are three types of fortune: material fortune, intellectual fortune and spiritual fortune.
I hope that this year you will focus on all three types of fortune. Do not neglect spiritual fortune. It lasts the longest and matters the most.
God wants to give you a very special treasure: the Holy Spirit. He is more valuable than money and knowledge as the Holy Spirit does not change, depreciate or disappear as time goes on. He consoles us in the tragic moments of our life, gives us hope when we face difficulties and helps us find the right direction. This is the fortune inside our hearts which can never be taken away.
We thank Jesus for lifting us out of our sins by dying on the cross so we can have a new life. We thank Jesus for not only providing for our physical existence but also providing the most valuable fortune- the Holy Spirit. Because of this, our life has a purpose.
In the year of the pig, we wish that everyone will find their spiritual fortune and have the Holy Spirit in their life.
