The real training happens between the sessions

Hi everyone,

Some of our MyFriends trainers recently got together to talk about how we could become more effective at helping people live the MyFriends lifestyle.

One thing became very clear.

The real training does not only happen during the training session.

It happens between the sessions.

It happens when you notice someone on your Daisy and decide to contact them.

It happens when a friend tells you about a problem and you offer to pray.

It happens when you remember that prayer a week later and ask what happened.

It happens when an ordinary conversation suddenly becomes more meaningful.

It happens when you sense that this might be a good time to mention something Jesus has done in your life.

Those are the moments when MyFriends moves from being something we have learned to something we are actually living.

That is why one of the important things trainers can do is help people stop and reflect.

Instead of simply asking, “Did you finish the lesson?”, we can ask questions like:

Who did you spend time with this week?

Did you have an opportunity to care for someone?

Did you pray with anyone?

Did you check back with someone you prayed for?

Did any conversation move one step deeper?

Where did you notice God at work?

Sometimes you may realise that more happened than you thought.

You may not have had a dramatic spiritual conversation. But perhaps you listened well. Perhaps someone trusted you with something personal. Perhaps you prayed. Perhaps you remembered and checked back.

Those small steps matter.

So this week, don't worry about trying to manufacture a spiritual experience.

Look at the people God has already placed around you.

Pay attention. Love them. Take the next small step. Then notice what God does.

That is where the MyFriends lifestyle really begins to take shape.

Walking together,

Bob
