The room was filled with the smoke of incense. A young child, wearing wearing white pants and only a chain of gold around his top, ran up to greet me.
We had just arrived at Carl* and Prisha's* apartment for our monthly Discovery Bible Study.
Prishna explained that today was Lord Krishna's birthday and they had just completed the Puja (an act of worship).
They offered us some sweets and we started the Discovery Bible study questions. Prisha led the first two questions (Caring for each other).
When I led the section on Accountability I was surprized to learn that Carl* had been talking with a relative in India about the importance of going to church.
Carl* led the Discovery Section, choosing who would read each paragraph of Luke 5:1-11 (Where Jesus calls Simon Peter).
Before we got to the questions my wife showed a 3 minute clip of the JESUS movie. This involved the children in the lesson.
When my wife led the Application section and asked "who will you share this story with?", Prisha immediately said she would tell her mother in India. They talk everyday --- sometimes for hours.
Why do I think this is the perfect house for a Discovery Bible Study?
- Carl* and Prisha* are telling people what they are learning
- They are willing to read and discuss the Bible
- God has put them in my neighbourhood in Sydney and we see them in other social contexts
- They still have not come to the conviction that there is is only one God
- They are already doing overseas missions
Are they people of peace? What does the Bible tell us? In Luke 10 it says:
5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house. 8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
I know I sure enjoy the food offered by this family. I am looking forward to how God will be changing them as we read more of His Word.
Please join me in praying that Carl* and Prisha* will come to faith soon.
