It’s Bob here….

I told you I’m an introvert.  So how do I get people to tell me what is REALLY going on in their lives?

Remember our goal in Discovery Bible Studies is to change the way people relate to each other and as well as how they relate to  God.

One of the most powerful questions to help me discover what is going on in people’s lives  is  “How is your week going?”

I used this question last week with a person I didn’t know very well.  We were colouring in a poster for the church worship service when I asked the question.  Rebecca* said her week was going OK, but the tone she used didn’t match her words.

I followed up with “What does that kind of  week look like for you?”

That second question opened up a floodgate.  Rebecca told me that she was being bullied at work and that her boss was trying to get her fired.  Then she opened up about how things were really going with her family. 

We stopped colouring for a minute and I prayed for Rebecca.

I’m glad that God is teaching me which questions to ask people.  I want Him to use me to help heal the hurts in my community.
