I picked up a Beatrix Potter book to read to our grandchild.
Elizabeth was only three weeks old at the time, so I knew she would not understand any of the words, but I was unprepared for being stumped in the very first paragraph:
It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is "soporific".
I have never heard the word 'soporific' in my life, and neither had any of the adults in the room.
Fortunately, I am a good reader and the next paragraph gave me a clue:
I have never felt sleepy after eating lettuce, but then I am not a rabbit.
'Soporific' means 'tending to induce drowsiness or sleep'.
It is what happens when Gospel presentations are too long or boring.
I love The Four Spiritual Laws. This booklet played an important role in my coming to faith. My website (hereslife.com) distributes bi-lingual editions in over 90 languages.
But, some people find this presentation too long.
Take a look the Australian version of The Four. If you click the button on the top left you can choose your favourite speaker. Mine is Yelena.
There is also an international site with 40 languages.
I often share this presentation drawing the four symbols on whatever piece of paper I can find.
Have fun sharing the Gospel, but please don't be soporific.
