Mooncake Festival

Are you ready to celebrate?

Last night, Ming* brought homemade Moon Cakes to our Bible study. It was her first time baking them, and she was so proud of her work — they were absolutely delicious!

Her joy and the significance of the Moon Cake Festival got me thinking: Why not create a card to share with my Chinese friends who celebrate this occasion?

As I dug a little deeper, I found that this Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on September 15, holds meaning for not only the Chinese but also for Vietnamese, Koreans, and Japanese communities.

So, here’s a link to a card I designed specifically for this festival.

The card offers a gentle invitation for our friends to explore the story of Jesus, who is the true light of the world by visiting a website in their heart language: mylanguage.net.au

When you give the card, take time to listen to their stories about what this celebration means to them. Your willingness to listen will open doors for meaningful conversation.

Some talking points to consider:

  • Explain that Jesus called Himself the light of the world, and what this means to you.
  • Share how Jesus also told His disciples, "You are the light of the world." Let them know how that has impacted your life personally.

Here is the text of the card.  May God bless you as you take time to celebrate this special season with others.

As the full moon graces the sky during this special Moon Cake Festival, we are reminded of the beauty of family, unity, and the traditions that bind us together. In many ways, this celebration reflects the light we carry within us, just as the moon reflects the light of the sun.

Throughout history, festivals like these have brought people together to share stories, values, and beliefs. It is a time to reflect on the blessings we have received and the hope for what lies ahead. As you gather with loved ones and enjoy the sweet taste of mooncakes, I encourage you to also reflect on the deeper questions of life—questions about purpose, peace, and eternity.

In the midst of this celebration, there is an invitation to explore something even greater. Jesus once said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life". Just as the moon shines brightly on this night, Jesus offers light for our lives, illuminating our hearts with peace, forgiveness, and love.

May this festival be not only a time of joy and connection but also a season of reflection on the light that brings true meaning to our lives.

With warm wishes for a blessed Moon Cake Festival,
